It's History

season 1

It began in a dark, musty warehouse on the banks of the Hudson river, in a town called Wappinger Falls. The year was 1995, sport entertainment had become stagnant and the Spice Girls were still 2 years away. But one man had a vision of hope...of a future in which a fans NFL season did not have to ride upon the success of his favorite teams. He gathered with a select few to form the backbone of a fantasy sports league unlike any before it. These original few sat down and laid the ground work for a fantasy league which would be known as the "AL Davis Is God Fantasy Football League" , or as it was better known as "the ADIGFFL". The eight owners/teams to participate in that league were:

Kevin K./ The Vatican Hitsquad/ Commissioner/ Renaissance Man

Martin K/ Brigits Ballbusters

Colm M./ Fucken Bollix

Martin C./ The Team With No Name*

Mike C./ The Satan Boys

James B./ Team Ross

John L./ The Legion Of Doom

Brendan W./ Michigan J. Frog and a Who-o-o-o-o-o-ole Lotta Lumps

*Martin C. started the league off by giving it its first "tradition". After failing to show up at the draft with a name for his team,"the team with no name" was penned in temporarily. By the end of the draft, he had yet to come up a name still and since i kinda like the way it sounded (i was commissioner), i named his team for him. This tradition of "naming a team for the owners lack of" was to make an appearance the next season.

During the course of the season, play was dominated by Fucken Bollix, who by most accounts was kicking everybody's ass. But by the end of the year, a second more painful tradition was started. More of a curse than a tradition, one that would find the team with the best performance during the regular season makes a pitiful playoff showing. Fucken Bollix faced Team Ross in round one of the playoffs, a team he had already destroyed twice during the regular season. Team Ross had slipped into the playoffs, edging out a resurgent Team With No Name to take the final playoff spot. However, come game time, the Bollix handed in their worst performance of the year and thus, took themselves right out of the championship race. This evil curse would make an appearance again...

The season also witnessed the dawn of a Fantasy newsletter like none have ever seen: the "Inside The A.D.I.G.F.F.L." report. it took on several formats during the season, but in all it laid the groundwork for a weekly round-up of each team and player. Fantasy Sports would be forever changed as many leagues world-wide attempt to copy this virtual Atlas of information!

An incident during this season also spawned the "all trades are subject to approval" rule. Late in the season, when , let's call him "team al" for the sake of protecting the innocent (or not so innocent!), was out of the playoff race, he conducted a trade another team that we'll call them "team davis". Team Davis WAS in the playoff race, but was lagging behind the other two teams in contention for the same spot (Team Ross and The Team With No Name). So, Team Al sent not only the best player on his team, but the best player in the league over to Team Davis for what amounted to a bunch of players that did not even start on Team Davis. Bench riders. pine collectors.Very shady trade, but at the time there was no rule to prevent it. so the trade stuck. outcome? Team Davis wasnt even close to making the playoffs.

The team to lead his division for most of the season made it to the championship game. That teams name was The Satan Boys and they won that game easily, making them the leagues first champion.

season 2

With season 2 came an attempt to expand the league. Season one's test run had been very successful, so plans were made to expand from 8 teams to 12. All but one of the original owners returned, with the only missing owner being the league champion, Mike C./The Satan Boys. He had just entered the Border Patrol Academy (where im sure 'Police Academy' hi-jinx ensued) and was unable to participate. There were several candidates to fill his slot and the 4 other expansion slots, but at the last minute the league decided to expand to only 10 teams. This decision sent shockwaves through the expansion owners, with 4 out of 5 prospective owners deciding to opt out instead of just 2 of them joining. That left a league of 8 again, and come draft day, a league of 7.

With many of the owners living outside of the Wappinger Falls area, draft day was hard to schedule. A day and time was finally set, but when the 1 pm pick time arrived, one member was "MIA". After attempting to reach him for several hours, the idea of scrapping the league was bounced around. In the end, he remained MIA and it was decided that a 7 team version of the league will carry on without him. this version would be division-less and be a "high score" run to the playoffs. The league faced major setbacks and obstacles, but it survived to play year two. With the new face of the league came a new name, a more appropriate and official sounding title was created: The Interstate Fantasy Football League, or "IFL" for short. I liked the sound of IFL better than IFFL, thats why the name differs from the acronym.

The Weekly report returns with a name change to "Inside the IFL", but the format not only remains but expands to show even more statistics. This is made possible due to the "test run" of a scoring program acquired by Kevin K and Martin K. This program makes it possible to not only track every player in the leagues stats, but also relieves Kevin K of the responsibility of scoring each team/ game manually! It was a good day!

the owners/ teams participating this year were:

Kevin K./ The Vatican Hitsquad/ Commissioner

Martin K/ Brigits Ballbusters

Colm M./ Beyond The Pale

Martin C./ The St. James Gate 1759ers

Brendan W./ Michigan J. Frog and a Who-o-o-o-o-o-ole Lotta Lumps

James B./ Elias 16

Greg D./ The Useless Wankers*

*remember the leagues first tradition? well, guess who didnt arrive to the draft with a team name? I happen to love this name too, so all owners think about your name wisely. In fact, come to think of it, i don't remember Greg ever making an appearance...hmmm, the rumor mill starts anew....

Even though the "play" of the league had switched from a head-to-head format to a hi-score run to the playoffs, one thing remained: the curse. Oh yes, remember the fate of "fucken Bollix"? well, the curse had driven Colm to change the name of his team (jinxed), which led to even more disastrous results for him. Anywho, let me introduce you to season two's recipient of "the curse"-Martin K / Brigits Ballbusters. Oh he led the season all right, in fact, he was about 600 Gigantic pts ahead of the next team by the time he coasted into the playoffs. The team in second place for most of the year, The Vatican Hitsquad, had tragedy strike his team team in the triple whammy form of losing his top two players to injury and his starting qb getting benched by the head coach...during a game...for no reason (thanks Wayne). with the loss of 3 of his top four players, the Hitsquad crawled their way in, surviving mostly thanks to the big lead they had built up prior to the tragedy. In the first round of the playoffs, the Ballbusters faced off against the Hitsquad, first place team playin the last place team in the playoffs. Brother vs. brother, mano y mano, good vs evil, Betty vs Veronica. The outcome was humorous (for me at least), with the Mighty Vatican Hitsquad (a possible name change here...) returning to their former glory to pound the Ballbusters into submission. Actually, the Ballbusters ran into the curse head on and posted their worst game of the season at the worst possible time. They got off the "championship bus" an exit early.

The championship game was played between the Vatican Hitsquad and the St James Gate 1759ers in what may go down in history as the lowest scoring championship game ever. One would figure an easy victory over a team that scored a measly 35 points. Well, one would also figure that the other team could score more than 33 points. Thats right, final score : St James Gate 1759ers 35-The Vatican Hitsquad 31. Thank you very much for playin, Kevin K, heres our home version.

The St James Gate 1759ers took home more than the winning purse. This year the "Al Davis Trophy" was introduced, a trophy awarded to the IFL champion. The new champion would receive a plate with his name on it placed on the back of the trophy for eternity, and he would hold onto that trophy until said time when he would lose the championship. The 59ers were the first to receive and hold the trophy, but the trophy officially also displayed the leagues first champion: The Satan Boys.

Season 3

Once again talks of expansion were bounced around. But this time, a draft day was set up far, FAR in advance and teams who committed to the league remained so. Six out of the last years seven returned, but the one owner who could not participate in season two also returned to play: Mike C. Now out of "Illegal Alien" school, he was stationed out in California and interested in playing again. By this season, owners had spread out between the states even more. The title of "Interstate Fantasy Football League" truly reflected the demographic layout of the owners. The return of Mike C plus the addition of 3 new owners put the league up to 10 owners. Of these ten, 3 were from Ny, 3 from Ct, 1 from Ca, 1 from Ga, 1 from Va and 1 from Da. The league is to rely heavily on phone contact, but more so over computer connection. This is the true dawning of the future of the league.

With 10 teams, head-to-head play returns. In order to fill scheduling problems, two "dummy" teams are invented in order to fill the gaps of the schedule. This idea would prove to be "good in theory-flawed in practice". One thing is certain, season 3 is the first and last the IFL will see from the "dummy" teams as we know it.

The participating owners/ teams were:

Kevin K./ The Vatican Hitsquad/ Commissioner*

Martin K/ Brigits Ballbusters/ Commissioner*

Colm M./Fucken Bollix

Martin C./ The St James Gate 1759ers

James B./ Elias 16

Brendan W./ Sucker Punch and A Beat down

Mike C./ The Beaner Patrol

Mike S./ The Really Big Otters

Kevin L./ The Whoop-Ass Express

Craig S./ The Balta-Morons

My two year reign as commissioner was ended for the most part because i split my job. at the time, this job was my only access to a computer i felt comfortable using whenever and for whatever i wanted. So, By week 3 i had handed over control to Martin K and remained on as a vice-commissioner. Not only was there not a beat missed, but he excelled at it. "Inside the IFL" became a weekly update, different format but same information at its core. Extensive weekly stats and standings were still provided with a game by game breakdown as well.

The season was a close one, with even The Ballbusters and The Hitsquad competing for the division lead...until week two that is. No , sadly, these two teams never got off the ground, only briefly showing flashes of mediocrity. As for the rest of the league, it was aclose race all season long. By week 10, the Silver division had the 59ers and the Bollix with a five game lead over the rest of their division, and in the Black division we saw The Whoop-Ass Express begin to pull away from the pack. By seasons end, Whoop-Ass had easily won its division as did the 59ers in the Silver (each with a 3 game lead over the wild card entries). Now it was tim for the "curse" to rear its ugly head.

The 1759ers had the best record in the league and was the leagues second highest scoring team, behind The Whoop-Ass Express. This was justice, the two best teams in the league actually winning their division. But the 59ers had to account for the curse you see, and with that they said "good-bye" to the championship in the first round. yes, for the third straight year, the best team in the league got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. The championship game was played by the Whoop-Ass Express, who amazingly enough did not make a single free agency transaction all year and the Beaner Patrol, year ones champion making his return to league play. The Beaner Patrol was not to be denied his due, and he won the championship again...this time sending "the Al Davis Trophy" out to the west coast for the next 365.

That closed year three, the best year by far. As for the coming year, expect the league to transform yet again since we are still a young league. Slowly, were cementing the rules of play down pat and within 2 years, we will be completed! c ya!
